From 1926 through 1939, amcnm developed and operated a lead and zinc mine, commonly known as the pecos mine or tererro mine, located approximately 16 miles north of the village of pecos at the confluence of willow creek and the pecos river. Here the pecos river and glorieta creek have formed a broad rolling valley in which the red adobe walls of the mission church stand as a striking monument to a historic past. This mapping has delineated an extensive volcanic and sedimentary terrane, mainly in the headwater area of the pecos river, that is known as the pecos greenstone belt (robertson. The pecos gold mine is located in close proximity to the town of tererro in new mexico. From west to east along willow creek, the intrusives are diabase, dacite, granodiorite and granite.
Detailed studies of individual deposits or districts in the region include: Stott (1931) and krieger (1932) on the pecos mines, san miguel county; Jahns (1946) and holmquist (1946) on the elk.
