Ragged University: Education For The People

Other schools wished to provide the children of the poor with an education which would offer them the skills and. Ragged university has come to be a construct to symbolically value the knowledge and wisdom of the people; As such it is in dialogue with the scholar who recognises the imperative of a culture to acknowledge the wealth stored in its peoples. It seeks to expand cultural knowledge, not to provide an alternative to established education.

Exploring the academic language, it became clear that part of what we were setting out to do was to create and reveal inclusive forms of social capital using free knowledge exchange and building as a lens to focus. The ragged university is where people come together to share their knowledge and skills in social spaces like pubs, cafes and libraries. Inspired by the ragged schools movement, we seek to communicate what we have invested our time in so to enrich each others lives.
